Thomas Merton

Thomas Merton was an American Catholic monk who lived from 1915 to 1968. Within his Trappist Order, he was known as Father Louis, but he's better known today as Thomas Merton. Firewatch, a group dedicated to religious contemplation in general and to the works of Thomas Merton in particular, maintains a very nice bibliography of Merton's writings and other people's writing about him.

I might point out that a Taoist book cited locally, The Way of Chuang Tzu was Merton's English language version of this Chinese classic.
